    • Lucid plans to start delivering the Gravity SUV to regular customers next month, the company said on Friday.
    • Since the start of production in December, it’s been making Gravity SUVs for internal use and for a limited number of customers close to the company.
    • The Gravity is the EV startup’s second model and is key to its future.

Waiting for your Lucid Gravity? There’s a light at the end of the tunnel. The electric-vehicle startup plans to start delivering its new three-row SUV to regular customers starting in late April, the company said on Friday.

“We have nearly completed building vehicles for studios and test drives and expect them to begin arriving at our locations across the U.S. beginning in April,” Marc Winterhoff, Lucid’s interim CEO, said in a LinkedIn post. “For early customers eagerly awaiting their Lucid Gravity delivery, we plan to begin delivering additional vehicles at the end of April.”

After an early phase of Gravity production that focused on making SUVs for internal use and for a limited number of customers close to the company, wider customer deliveries will begin in late April, Lucid spokesperson Nick Twork confirmed to InsideEVs. “This is the next phase of the launch,” he said.

Lucid started making the Gravity, its second-ever model, in early December at its factory in Arizona. Later that month, it said it had started delivering the SUVs to Lucid employees, as well as their friends and family members. The startup has also been making vehicles that will go to showrooms across the country, for display and test drives.

Now everyday customers are closer than ever to taking delivery, a big milestone for Lucid’s most important project yet. The startup has yet to turn a profit, and sales of its debut vehicle, the Air sedan, never took off like the company had initially projected they would. It’s an impressive machine and the longest-range EV on the U.S. market by far, but it’s always been a sedan in an SUV’s world.

The seven-seat Gravity should appeal to a wider base of buyers. The Grand Touring model that’s the first on offer starts at $96,550 (including destination charges) and delivers 450 miles of EPA-estimated range. A lower-cost Touring model will arrive later this year. Notably, the Gravity is among the first non-Tesla EVs to come with the Tesla-designed charging port that the American auto industry is moving to.

InsideEVs will be on hand at the Gravity’s press launch next month, so we’ll be able to tell you all more about it soon.
