MUMBAI, 29th June 2025: Mahindra & Mahindra has outlined a bold plan to increase last-mile electric vehicle volumes by two to three times from a base of 78,524 units in FY25 as part of its ambitious roadmap to scale its electric mobility business.

Mahindra EV Scale-Up Eyes 3X Jump in Last-Mile Volumes & 30% eSUV Share by 2027

According to the Mahindra & Mahindra annual report, the company plans to maintain its leadership in India’s growing electric three-wheeler and cargo market, which is becoming increasingly significant for both urban logistics and rural mobility. In addition to Bajaj’s impending e-rickshaw launch, Mahindra faces competition from TVS and Bajaj, who are joining its dominated electric three-wheeler market.

By FY27, the company hopes to have 20–30% of its total portfolio made up of electric SUVs as part of its passenger EV strategy. If this is successful, Mahindra will be able to take the lead in the Indian eSUV market and accelerate the decarbonisation of the country’s automobile sector.

The Three-Wheeler Segment Sees Dominance and New Products
Mahindra expanded its range in the electric three-wheeler market with the Treo Plus (Metal), eAlfa Plus, and the recently released Mahindra Zeo, the company’s first four-wheeler electric SCV. These new offerings are intended to support Mahindra’s dominant 42.9% market share in the electric three-wheeler segment and serve the needs of goods haulage and urban and semi-urban transportation.

Product and Platform Innovation Are the Foundation of EV’s Push
Mahindra’s strategy is focused on producing electric vehicles that are innovative in their design, high in technology, and globally renowned for their performance and safety. With the introduction of its flagship Electric Origin SUVs, the BE 6 and XEV 9e, Mahindra Electric Automobile Ltd. (MEAL) made its official debut in FY25.

The new eSUVs are built on India’s first pure-electric platform, INGLO, and provide improved vehicle dynamics, lower NVH, and 5-star safety according to Bharat NCAP. They are driven by the company’s in-house MAIA (Mahindra AI Architecture), a comprehensive Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) system that includes VisionX, Eye-dentity, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos.

The BE 6 and XEV 9e have a certified range of up to 683 km (MIDC P1+P2) and come with two battery pack options: 59 kWh and 79 kWh. With ADAS Level 2+, AutoPark, and voice-activated controls, the interior boasts a futuristic, three-screen immersive cockpit that spans the entire coast.

In FY25, the Mahindra Veero, a sub-3.5T electric LCV designed for intra-city logistics, was also introduced, along with the XUV 3XO and Thar ROXX, both of which were awarded 5-star Bharat NCAP ratings.

The Future Factory: Designed for EV Scale
Mahindra is expanding its production capacity quickly in order to meet its EV roadmap. At Chakan, the company has constructed a cutting-edge eUV plant that includes a 98% automated battery manufacturing facility. With its Vision AI quality systems, the Chakan unit is equipped to produce 90,000 next-generation EVs a year.

Through 2030, this plant will support a stacked EV launch pipeline as the company gets ready to release a number of mass and premium models on its electric platforms.

Beyond Vehicles: Building the EV Ecosystem
Creating a comprehensive EV ecosystem is another goal of Mahindra’s electrification agenda. More than 10,000 home EV chargers have been installed by its Powerol division, which is also actively investigating Li-ion battery-based energy storage solutions. Mahindra Finance, its financial division, is making EV financing easily accessible by utilising its strong tractor and rural lending presence and close OEM relationships.

In keeping with the group’s objective of using green energy to power EVs, Mahindra Susten, its renewable energy unit, is increasing its clean power capacity from 1.5 GWp to 7 GWp by FY30. In the meantime, its CERO vehicle recycling programme is increasing the use of secondary steel in all production lines and aiming for 95% recyclability for exported vehicles.

Social sustainability is also a priority. Mahindra’s community inclusion programme, Project Kaabil, is enhancing gender participation in the mobility industry by empowering women with economic agency through driver training, EV leasing assistance, and microfinance access

FY25 Electric Volumes Rise, Positive Outlook
Mahindra sold 77,386 electric three-wheelers in FY25, up 16.9%, and 14,183 electric four-wheelers, up 76.7%. The company believes that EV penetration in India is set to accelerate due to a growing middle class, proactive government policies like PM E-DRIVE, and strong youth demand.

The long-term outlook for India’s EV sector remains positive, underpinned by improving public-private infrastructure, tighter emission norms, and increasing demand for clean transport alternatives.

    An Electrically-Powered, Digitally-Enabled Future
Additionally, Mahindra is integrating smart digital systems into every aspect of its EV business, from manufacturing. From Vehicle GPT for AI-powered customer interactions to AI (MATRIX) for real-time production optimisation, Service Co-Pilot offers post-sale diagnostics and support.

These systems work together to provide customers and the business with a smooth, technologically advanced EV experience, confirming Mahindra’s prediction that intelligent, electric, and domestically produced vehicles will dominate Indian transportation in the future, the M&M Annual report has stated
