HARYANA, MANESAR – 17th June 2025: To reduce traffic and have a green supply chain and logistics, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. invested Rs 452 crore to open the largest in-plant automobile railway siding in India at its Manesar facility. A third in-plant railway siding at its Kharkhoda plant in Haryana is also already planned.
“This project is unique not just for Maruti Suzuki but also for Suzuki Corporation globally,” said Rahul Bharti, Executive Director of Maruti Suzuki India, in an interview with EVStory.
“The integration of the railway network is helping the company reduce logistics time and its reliance on expensive diesel fuel required for long-haul truck transport,” Bharti said, adding that a third siding is in the works at its Kharkhoda facility in the time to come ahead.

The Manesar siding, which is registered under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, was inaugurated by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. It is Maruti’s second terminal linked to GatiShakti, following its facility in Gujarat, and it will have the capability to dispatch up to 450,000 vehicles annually at full capacity.
The facility has been developed as part of the 126-km Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC), which runs from Sonipat to Palwal. The project was executed by Haryana Orbital Rail Corporation Ltd (HORCL), a joint venture where Maruti Suzuki invested Rs 325 crore, with an additional Rs 127 crore allocated for internal yard development.
Covering 46 acres, the hub features a fully electrified 8.2 km track network with advanced signaling, a two-storey station building, and dispatch connectivity to 17 hubs and 380 cities across India. It will also support key export ports at Mundra and Pipavav, thereby enhancing the company’s outbound supply chain for exports.
Maruti Suzuki estimates that the rail siding will help avoid 175,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent emissions annually, resulting in fuel savings of nearly 60 million liters once fully operational.
“This landmark facility underscores Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to sustainability and India’s net-zero target by 2070,” said Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India. The company aims to increase the share of vehicles dispatched by rail to 35% by FY2030- 31, up from the current 17%.
The Manesar siding marks a significant milestone in Maruti Suzuki’s green logistics journey, aiming to enhance transport efficiencies while supporting India’s broader decarbonization efforts, added other company officials who were present for the inauguration
