MediaTek has added two new smartphone processors, the Dimensity 9500s and Dimensity 8500, aimed at flagship and premium phones. Announced at MediaTek Tech Day in New Delhi, the chipsets target better performance efficiency, on-device AI, gaming features and faster connectivity for upcoming Android devices from major brands in India and global markets.

Oppo India confirmed that the next Find X9s flagship will use the Dimensity 9500s, while Poco India plans to integrate the same chipset into a future X-series model. MediaTek is positioning the Dimensity 8500 slightly lower, for upper mid-range phones that still need strong gaming, camera and AI performance at a more accessible price point.

    OEM Plans and Flagship Focus

Goldee Patnaik, Head of Communications at Oppo India, called the Find X9s, powered by the Dimensity 9500s, a “refined and balanced approach” to the flagship ecosystem. Poco India marketing lead Ken Sekhar said the 9500s platform should help the brand chase higher real-world performance scores and improve daily user experience across its X-series smartphones in India.

Detailing MediaTek’s wider aim, Anuj Sidharth, Director of Marketing and Corporate Communication for MediaTek India and SEA, said, “With the launch of these chipsets, we are democratizing the flagship experience,” highlighting plans to bring top-tier features beyond ultra-premium devices. Sidharth added that Big Core CPU designs combined with generative AI support are meant to reach a broader user base.

    CPU, GPU, AI Architecture

The Dimensity 9500s uses an All Big Core CPU layout on a 3nm N3E process. It combines one Arm Cortex-X925 ultra core at 3.73GHz with three Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A720 cores. This blend targets fast burst performance and sustained speeds for gaming, camera processing and AI workloads without sharp drops in frame rates or responsiveness.

On the Dimensity 8500, MediaTek also sticks to an All Big Core approach but on a 4nm N4P node. The SoC features eight Cortex-A725 cores, led by one primary core at 3.4GHz, three performance cores at 3.2GHz and four efficiency-tuned cores at 2.2GHz. MediaTek claims this setup improves sustained performance and power use versus the previous generation platform.

    Gaming Graphics and Display Support

Graphics on the Dimensity 9500s are handled by the Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU, which adds hardware-based ray tracing for supported titles. MediaTek’s Adaptive Game Technology 3.0 and Frame Rate Conversion 3.0 aim to keep gameplay smooth while managing battery drain. The chipset supports displays up to WQHD+ with refresh rates reaching 180Hz and can drive advanced form factors such as tri-fold screens.

MediaTek Dimensity 9500s & Dimensity 8500 Chips Announced in India

The Dimensity 8500 opts for an Arm Mali-G720 MC8 GPU. MediaTek says this GPU delivers up to 25 percent higher performance than the earlier generation, while also lowering power draw in gaming and media apps. Display output on the 8500 reaches WQHD+ at up to 144Hz, and the platform supports dual-screen setups, which could be useful for foldable or accessory displays.

    AI Engines, Memory, Storage

MediaTek equips the Dimensity 9500s with an integrated NPU tuned for generative and multimodal AI processing on-device. The company says this AI engine targets tasks such as large image generation, video effects and interactive assistants without sending data to the cloud. The SoC supports LPDDR5X memory with data rates up to 10667Mbps, along with high-speed storage like UFS 4.

For the Dimensity 8500, MediaTek uses its 8th-generation NPU 880. This AI unit supports large language models and image generation workloads directly on smartphones. Paired with LPDDR5X memory running at up to 9600Mbps and UFS 4 storage, the chipset is aimed at bringing advanced AI functions, such as offline text tools or creative apps, to mid-premium Android devices.

    Camera, Video, Connectivity Features

The Dimensity 9500s integrates the MediaTek Imagiq ISP, enabling 8K video recording at 60fps and camera sensors up to 320MP. It introduces 8K full-focus Dolby Vision HDR with real-time motion tracking up to 30fps. The imaging stack is built for flagship photography, with support for detailed stills, stable 8K footage and advanced HDR pipelines on compatible smartphones.

The Dimensity 8500’s camera subsystem also supports sensors up to 320MP but caps video at 4K 60fps. This makes it suited to upper mid-range camera phones that still want sharp 4K video and large sensor support. On the networking side, the 8500 includes Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, dual-SIM dual-active 5G and MediaTek UltraSave 3.0+ for better modem power efficiency.

Dimensity 9500s and Dimensity 8500: Comparison

For connectivity, the Dimensity 9500s carries a 5G Release-17 modem with up to 4-carrier aggregation and peak downlink speeds of 7Gbps. It supports Wi-Fi 7 with theoretical rates of 6.5Gbps, Bluetooth 5.4 and dual-SIM dual-active 5G. Features such as MediaTek UltraSave 4.0, AI Network Suite 2.0 and Xtra Range 3.0 aim to reduce power use and extend wireless coverage.

Both Dimensity 9500s and Dimensity 8500 show MediaTek’s strategy of using All Big Core designs, higher memory speeds and on-device AI to reach different price tiers. With Oppo and Poco already on board, Indian users can expect these chipsets to appear first in flagship and premium smartphones, followed by a wider rollout as more OEMs sign on.
