MediaTek has unveiled the Dimensity 9600 Pro. This marks the mobile industry’s transition to the advanced 2nm manufacturing process. This new flagship silicon aims to redefine premium smartphone standards. It offers substantial gains in raw operating power, graphical output, and overall energy efficiency.
The launch positions MediaTek as the first semiconductor designer to announce a commercial 2nm system-on-chip. This advancement directly targets the growing demands of on-device artificial intelligence and high-fidelity mobile gaming. The chipmaker also introduced the Dimensity 9600M to bring similar capabilities to a broader market.

A New Era of 2nm All-Big-Core Computing
The Dimensity 9600 Pro utilises a unique All Big Core architecture in a 2+3+3 configuration. It features two C2-Ultra performance cores clocked up to an impressive 4.55GHz. Additionally, six C2-Pro big cores are divided into two distinct clock-speed tiers. These changes yield up to 17 per cent faster single-core performance.
Multi-core performance rises by 15 per cent. Crucially, multi-core power consumption drops by a massive 61 per cent. This efficiency leap is vital for managing thermal throttling in slim smartphones. It ensures sustained peak performance during intensive productivity tasks or long navigation sessions.
This transition to 2nm represents a vital milestone before competitors fully embrace the node. Mobile processors are currently built on 3nm designs. Shifting to 2nm enables smaller transistor sizes, reducing electrical leakage and increasing performance density on-device.
Agentic AI and Next-Generation Memory Support
MediaTek is heavily prioritising agentic AI. These are sophisticated on-device systems capable of reasoning and acting autonomously. The chipset integrates a dual-NPU architecture featuring the new NPU 1090. This unit delivers 51 per cent faster large language model prefill performance. It easily runs complex models with up to 30 billion parameters.
To sustain data-heavy workflows, the platform introduces support for ultra-fast LPDDR6 memory. It also supports UFS 5.0 storage standards. A generous 34.5MB system cache supports this hardware platform. This pipeline allows the CPU and NPU to share resources dynamically. Consequently, complex background applications run without any lag.

Premium gaming receives a major boost via the new G2-Ultra NX graphics processor. This unit delivers a 27 per cent increase in peak performance. Raytracing calculations run 18 per cent faster. Combined with neural graphics, the chip powers console-grade mobile gaming up to 185fps. Peak gaming power consumption drops by 24 per cent.
The Imagiq 1290 image signal processor works directly with the NPU. This fusion enables complex algorithmic colour corrections. Mobile videographers can capture native 4K slow-motion footage at an impressive 240 frames per second. The chip also handles fast-moving action using AI-assisted motion capture at 60 frames per second.
Expanding Flagship Performance Across Segments
Recognising the diverse Indian smartphone market, MediaTek is also launching the Dimensity 9600M. This variant brings flagship capabilities to more accessible price points. It includes the advanced scheduling engine and raytracing support. The chip maintains high-end gaming frame rates and features dedicated imaging pipelines for real-time subject tracking.
Smart hardware scheduling and sustained battery efficiency are central to this generation. Both processors represent a strategic shift by MediaTek to lead the high-end mobile segment. Smartphones sporting these 2nm platforms should debut during the current quarter. This includes expected launches from prominent brands in the Indian market.
