Xbox fans now have a new officially-licensed third-party controller to look forward to. Developed by renowned accessory maker GameSir, the G7 Pro controller launches in the coming weeks and offers numerous features for a compelling price, but there’s a big catch for Xbox users in particular.

GameSir first teased the G7 Pro earlier this year as a more affordable alternative to Microsoft’s Xbox Elite Series 2 controller. Positioned as GameSir’s new flagship controller – superseding the Tarantula Pro gamepad – the G7 Pro packs in high-end features like hall effect triggers, modular faceplates, ultra-responsive (claimed) wireless connectivity, and much more. However, there is one major caveat with the G7 Pro controller: it doesn’t support wireless play on Xbox consoles.

Rumor: Xbox’s Own Handheld is ‘Essentially Canceled’

A reliable source alleges that Microsoft has shelved the long-rumored in-house Xbox handheld console in favor of third-party collaborations.

While PC and Android users can take full advantage of the G7 Pro’s tri-mode connectivity – wired, 2.4GHz wireless, and Bluetooth – Xbox users must solely rely on a wired connection due to Microsoft’s current protocol restrictions. That said, GameSir has confirmed that an Xbox-centric wireless version of the controller is in development, although it’ll only arrive later this year. When it does launch, it will be priced slightly higher than the standard $80 wired G7 Pro controller releasing on July 8, 2025. As for features, the G7 Pro comes with TMR magnetic sticks for smooth control and durability, hall effect analog triggers with clicky stops, and a built-in gyroscope – usable even in wireless 2.4GHz mode.

GameSir G7 Pro Controller Will Go on Sale Starting July 8 for $80

The controller also includes four remappable macro buttons, customizable faceplates, full support for 3.5mm audio on both wired and wireless PC setups, an included charging dock, and a revamped software suite. In terms of performance, the G7 Pro is no slouch either, as it features a 1000Hz polling rate and 6ms input latency via its 2.4GHz dongle, making it suitable for competitive multiplayer gameplay. The G7 Pro continues GameSir’s trend of neatly-executed designs as well, and is available in two colours – Mech White and Shadow Ember. Prospective buyers can place pre-orders for the G7 Pro on GameSir’s official website.

For players who mainly game on PC or Android, the G7 Pro represents an impressive value proposition at its $80 price point, which isn’t too far off the cost of a basic Xbox Series X controller. However, Xbox users looking for a truly wireless experience may find it worth waiting for the upcoming dedicated variant. While the G7 Pro’s wired connection is serviceable, it may not appeal to those who prefer a fully untethered setup in their living room.
