Oda Has Officially Revealed Devil Fruit Awakenings That Can Rival Gear 5

Monkey D. Luffy is the protagonist of One Piece, and fans know him to be incredibly powerful, especially now, in the Final Saga. Luffy ate the Gomu Gomu no Mi at the very beginning of the series, and over the years, he’s gone on to master this Devil Fruit.

Recently, in the Wano Country Arc, Luffy went on to hit a new level of power when he awakened his Devil Fruit, the true name of which was then revealed to be the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. Luffy is the Sun God Nika and he can access this power through his Awakening transformation, called Gear 5. While this ability is absolutely broken, there are other awakenings that can go on to surpass the power of Nika.

Luffy experienced a near-death event in Wano in the fight against Kaido. Some would say that Kaido actually managed to kill him for a few moments, and that Luffy had to return from death to push himself beyond all limits. As Kaido put it, awakening can only happen when the body and mind are finally “one” with the ability. As Luffy managed to gain that power in Wano, it allowed him to not only match Kaido, but also overwhelm him in certain instances. Undoubtedly, Luffy was able to put up a great performance against him, all thanks to Gear 5.

The Yami Yami no Mi Awakening Can Break All Devil Fruits

Nullifies All Devil Fruit Powers

While the Nika fruit is, undoubtedly, immensely powerful, it doesn’t quite match up to the Yami Yami no Mi. This Devil Fruit is known to cancel out the abilities of all other Devil Fruits, and this is largely because of its power of darkness. The only downside of this power in One Piece is that it needs to make contact with the other user to nullify their powers. But, that’s where Awakening comes in.

If Teach awakens his Devil Fruit, he can nullify Devil Fruit powers with indirect contact as well, meaning even Gear 5 would be nullified against him.

The Gura Gura no Mi Can Destroy The World

Another Devil Fruit that Teach currently holds in his disposal is the Gura Gura no Mi. This is the strongest Paramecia Devil Fruit known to create quakes and cause tsunamis. This Devil Fruit is comparable to an ancient weapon and can destroy the whole world even in the unawakened state. Once awakened, its powers will likely grow exponentially and wreak havoc.

Imu’s Awakening Is The Power Of Evil

Imu is among the strongest characters in One Piece and fans only recently got to see their powers in Elbaf. As was seen in the story, Imu can use the Power of Evil and has a Spellbook for various spells. Only a fraction of their power has been shown so far, but they’re already strong enough to surpass Gear 5, and that goes without saying. Stack awakening on top, and it’ll be practically impossible.
