    Summary

    • Roger was an elite pirate, only tied in strength by Whitebeard and matched by Garp.
    • One piece went to great lengths to show Roger’s immense strength & limited number of rivals.
    • Roger’s biggest enemy may have been Rocks D. Xebec, who beat him in a previous fight 39 years ago.

In the world of One Piece, there are very few capable of fighting at the highest level and holding their own against strong individuals such as the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. Oda made it quite clear that throughout his career as a pirate, Gol D. Roger attained it all — wealth, fame, and power.

One Piece: Oda Finally Reveals The True Strength Of Rocks D. Xebec

Oda finally showcases the true power of Rocks D. Xebec. This powerful pirate is a legend through and through.

However, that doesn’t mean Roger was always as strong as he was at the end of his journey and that he never lost. It also doesn’t mean Roger’s fame was always as high. Everyone starts from somewhere, and so did Roger. In fact, at one point in the story, Roger is implied to have lost a battle as well, hard as that may be to believe. All of this was hinted at by Oda in the Egghead Island arc, and now, Elbaf has turned more focus towards this.

The Immense Strength Of The Pirate King In One Piece

    • The Pirate King Was The Strongest
    • Whitebeard And Garp Were His Only Match

When it comes to power, fans know they Roger was an elite pirate with strength that few could rival. In fact, Roger’s strength was absolutely immense and in the world of One Piece, only one pirate is confirmed to have tied a battle with him, and that’s none other than Edward Newgate, also known as Whitebeard. These two were evenly matched in power. From the side of the Marines, fans know that Garp is the only one strong enough to match Roger, having been said to have cornered him on multiple occasions.

Rocks was Roger’s biggest enemy. — Sengoku

One Piece: Oda Sets Up The First Major Straw Hat Battle In Elbaf

The first major battle in Elbaf is being set up by Oda. The upcoming fights are going to be intense in One Piece.

But, Roger himself stated that Sengoku would be a worthy opponent for him as well. Fans also know thanks to the Elbaf arc that Rayleigh and Scopper Gaban were on the same level as Roger himself, which just goes to show that there were only a handful strong enough to match Roger. This isn’t surprising, given that Roger was known to wield tremendous Haki, and had a Supreme Grade Weapon at his disposal. But, there may have been one character who defeated Roger long ago.

How Rocks D. Xebec Is Implied To Have Beaten Roger

Xebec And Roger Met 1 Year Before God Valley

Fans know that Roger and Rocks D. Xebec fought in God Valley. It was also revealed that Rocks D. Xebec was beaten by the team up of Garp and Roger here, and that’s how the Rocks Pirates were eventually split apart. However, there was also yet another battle that took place between them 1 year prior to the God Valley Incident.

It’s been one year. Do you know how I’ve felt all this time? — Roger after his previous battle with Rocks

This was revealed during Kuma’s flashback, where Roger essentially confirmed to the fans that he met Rocks one year prior to the God Valley Incident. It isn’t known what exactly happened during this meeting, but Roger is said to hold bitter memories of their previous meetings, as he clearly told his crew that he’s felt since last year. This clearly implies that their last meeting ended badly for Roger and that he lost to Xebec.

    Gol D Roger One Piece

This makes even more sense when taking into consideration the fact that Sengoku openly stated that Rocks D. Xebec was Roger’s biggest enemy, even greater than Whitebeard. Undoubtedly, they fought before God Valley as well, and Roger most likely lost this fight, 39 years ago.

One Piece chapter 1145 will be out very soon, later this week. As usual, One Piece is going to drop on the upcoming Sunday. In Japan, One Piece drops at 12AM JST on Monday. However, the vast majority of international readers will see the chapter available on April 6. The official release date of One Piece Chapter 1145 is April 6, 2025.
