Ola Electric is currently under scrutiny from India’s transport authorities, as a significant number of its showrooms—approximately 90 percent, or 3,300 locations—reportedly lack the required trade certificates, according to a Bloomberg report.
The Motor Vehicles Act stipulates that all auto showrooms, including those selling two-wheelers, must prominently display a trade certificate if they are involved in the display, sale, offering of test rides, or transportation of unregistered two-wheelers.
The Bloomberg report indicates that Ola Electric is missing essential certifications necessary for operating its dealership network. Consequently, transport officials have conducted inspections at various locations, resulting in raids and the sealing of several showrooms.
In response, Ola Electric stated that the company maintains an inventory of unregistered vehicles at its distribution centers and warehouses throughout India, asserting that these operations are fully compliant with the Motor Vehicles Act and possess the required approvals.
