The next PlayStation State of Play event could be sooner than expected, as a trusted insider says it should take place “well before” June. State of Play events have become one of the most highly anticipated showcases in the gaming industry, as PlayStation often gives gamers between 45 minutes and an hour’s worth of big reveals, updates, announcements, and much more. With the likes of Saros and Marvel’s Wolverine still to come, a new State of Play could give fans a further look at some of the biggest releases of 2026.

It’s only been a couple of months since the last State of Play, which took place in February. Although many of PlayStation’s events can be hit or miss, the most recent State of Play was an all-time great. Right off the bat, PlayStation blew fans away with a reveal of Kena: Scars of Kosmora, a sequel to the 2021 title, Bridge of Spirits. Also confirmed during the event was a remake of the original God of War Trilogy, which was accompanied by the shadow drop of a new God of War 2.5 action platformer. If that wasn’t enough, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 developer Saber Interactive revealed a currently untitled John Wick game, and Housemarque provided an update on Saros, the spiritual successor to Returnal.

PlayStation Is Giving Fans An Opportunity To Be Included In Major First Party Games

PlayStation has just announced The Playerbase, a campaign that will give fans the opportunity to be included in a major first-party game.

PlayStation State of Play Could Arrive “Well Before” June

According to trusted insider NateTheHate, a new PlayStation State of Play could be right around the corner. When asked by a follower if the event will be held in June, similar to last year’s schedule, Nate replied by saying it should be “well before that.” The insider clarifies that they have yet to confirm the date with their sources, but it’s looking like the next PlayStation State of Play could just be a matter of weeks away. In 2025, there was a State of Play that took place in April, but it was dedicated solely to the Ghost of Tsushima sequel, Ghost of Yotei. The year prior to that, a State of Play for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth took place in February, followed by a full showcase at the end of May.

With Saros set to release for PlayStation 5 on April 30, it’s possible that PlayStation may hold one final State of Play dedicated to one of its biggest exclusives of the year. But, given that we’re already over a week into the month, it seems unlikely. What is more plausible is a dedicated State of Play for Marvel’s Wolverine. Insomniac’s next superhero adventure is, undoubtedly, the most anticipated PS5 exclusive of 2026, and it was noticeably absent from February’s State of Play. But it seems like this is for good reason, as the studio said that more will be revealed in the Spring.

This is, of course, nothing more than personal speculation, but given that Spring officially began last month, it only seems logical that PlayStation may dedicate its next State of Play to Marvel’s Wolverine, the most anticipated video game release of 2026 next to Grand Theft Auto 6. There’s also the possibility that the next State of Play won’t be for a single title, which means it could arrive in May, if past years are anything to go by.

It’s already been a massive year for PS5 fans, and there’s still plenty more to come. Earlier this week, one of Xbox’s biggest exclusives, Starfield, made its way to PS5, alongside the massive new Free Lanes update and Terran Armada DLC. As mentioned previously, Saros is set to launch in just a few weeks, and will be followed by 007: First Light in May, Marvel’s Wolverine in September, and then the big one in November: Grand Theft Auto 6.
