Qualcomm Launches Snapdragon X2 Elite Series

Qualcomm is betting big on AI performance for PCs with the launch of its new Snapdragon X2 Elite series. Announced at the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii on Wednesday, the lineup includes two chips — the Snapdragon X2 Elite and the more powerful Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme. Both are aimed squarely at Windows PCs, promising big jumps in performance and efficiency.

Designed With AI At The Core

The headline number is up to 80 trillion operations per second (TOPS) of AI performance, delivered through Qualcomm’s Hexagon NPU. That figure is particularly important because Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC initiative leans heavily on AI acceleration. Qualcomm says the new NPU is 75 percent faster than the previous generation, making these chips better suited for tasks like agentic AI workloads, data analytics, and even scientific simulations.

Performance And Efficiency Gains

The Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme is the star of the show. Built with third-generation Oryon cores, it reportedly delivers up to 75 percent faster CPU performance than competitors at the same power level. Qualcomm has also introduced a new Adreno GPU architecture that it says achieves 2.3x better performance per watt than before.

On the CPU side, the top-end configuration uses 18 cores — 12 prime and six performance — with clock speeds peaking at 5.0GHz. There’s 53MB of cache onboard, plus support for LPDDR5X memory and up to 228GB/s of memory bandwidth. All of this translates into better throughput while drawing less power: Qualcomm claims 31 percent higher performance and 43 percent lower power use compared to the Snapdragon X Elite.

Features And Compatibility

The Snapdragon X2 Elite chips will support a broad set of form factors, from traditional laptops to 2-in-1 PCs. Display support goes up to three 5K monitors at 60Hz, alongside DirectX 12.2.2 Ultimate for gaming and graphics workloads.

Connectivity isn’t left behind either. The platform integrates Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and 5G cellular, giving PC makers flexibility to target both premium ultrabooks and more experimental device designs.

Availability Timeline

If you’re hoping to see these chips in action soon, you’ll need a bit of patience. Qualcomm says PCs powered by the Snapdragon X2 Elite series will hit the market in the first half of 2026. That puts them in line with the next wave of Windows laptops expected to carry Copilot+ branding.
