Realme GT 8 Pro Camera Review: Will Ricoh GR Optics Finally Turn Realme Into A Camera-First Flagship?

But one of the biggest upgrades to the Realme GT 8 Pro comes on the camera front. And lucky for us, we spent a few days testing the Realme GT 8 Pro’s camera system in Goa. And it’s safe to say that Realme has stepped up its imaging game in 2025.

Realme GT 8 Pro Camera Specifications

The smartphone comes with a triple-camera setup headlined by a 50MP primary sensor developed in partnership with RICOH GR, a collaboration that focuses on image tone, depth, and natural rendering. Alongside it sits a 200MP 3x telephoto lens and a 50MP ultra-wide shooter, rounding out a versatile array of focal lengths. Up front, the phone opts for a 32MP selfie camera.

Realme GT 8 Pro Camera Review

When we fired up the camera app, the interface felt clean and responsive, with zoom toggles at 0.6x, 1x, 2x, 3x, and 6x. The telephoto camera kicks in from 3x and beyond, offering digital zoom up to 120x. We took shots at various zoom levels, and up to 30x, the results were surprisingly sharp and usable. Even at 50x, details held up well in good light, while the 120x shots, though slightly processed, were still practical for spotting distant subjects.

Realme’s new AI-assisted framing tool aims to simplify composition by recognizing scenes and automatically adjusting zoom and framing. However, we noticed it worked best with a stable internet connection; otherwise, the response was inconsistent. While the suggested compositions were hit-or-miss, it’s a smart addition for casual photographers.

Portrait mode delivers excellent subject separation and natural skin tones. Edge detection was accurate, even in complex backgrounds, and selfies from the 32MP front camera looked crisp with balanced tones. In low-light testing around Goa’s night streets, the GT 8 Pro impressed with sharp, detailed images and minimal noise. Night Mode preserved colour accuracy while balancing highlights and shadows effectively.

Realme GT 8 Pro Camera Modes

The phone’s Soft Light mode continues to impress, offering Misty, Glowing, and Dreamy presets for portrait shots. Combined with beauty filters, HDR, and the new AI Snap mode, there’s plenty to experiment with. Across all three lenses, colour reproduction remained consistent, vibrant yet natural, with well-managed highlights even in challenging backlit scenes. Up to 10x zoom, it was hard to tell zoomed photos apart from 1x shots in terms of clarity.

How Realme Leverages the New Partnership with RICOH

We particularly enjoyed the RICOH GR Mode, a standout feature exclusive to the main camera. It offers 28mm and 40mm focal lengths with artistic filters inspired by GR cameras. Shooters can capture in JPEG, RAW, or RAW Max and manually adjust focus, giving enthusiasts a true retro-camera feel. The black-and-white preset produced stunning contrast-rich results, perfect for street and architectural photography.

Realme GT 8 Pro Video Capabilities

Video capabilities are equally impressive: the Realme GT 8 Pro can record up to 8K at 30fps or 4K at 120fps (main and telephoto cameras). The ultra-wide lens supports 4K 60fps, with HDR and stabilization available up to 4K 60fps. During our tests, stabilized clips appeared smooth on-device, though desktop playback sometimes introduced minor jitters. The front camera also supports 4K 60fps, though with limited stabilization.

Overall, the Realme GT 8 Pro’s camera delivers a polished, flagship-grade experience that blends AI enhancements with professional flexibility. From high-res telephoto shots to creative GR filters, it’s one of the most capable and enjoyable camera systems we’ve tested in a Realme device to date.
