Originally revealed in 2020 and made available to a select group of people, Amazon Luna officially launched on March 1, 2022, in the United States, before expanding to the UK, Canada, and Germany. A cloud-based service, Amazon Luna offers subscribers an opportunity to stream a curated selection of games, with its library being divided into a few channels that each come with a unique monthly price.
Besides the channels, Amazon Luna also grants Prime subscribers access to a handful of free games per month; at the moment, four titles are usually the standard, although some temporary surprises might be included. Since Amazon Luna requires a stable internet connection to work, with 10 Mbps being the recommended speed, Prime owners can test the service using these titles before looking into the platform’s channels. It also helps that Amazon Luna’s free games for Prime lineup are generally pretty good.
These Amazon Luna’s Free Games with Prime will be available between September 1–30, 2024.
Middle-earth: Shadow Of War
A Lord Of The Rings Action RPG With A Great Nemesis System
Arguably the best Amazon Luna free game with Prime for September 2024, Middle-earth: Shadow of War is an action RPG that should scratch a subscriber’s itch for LOTR content, a logical inclusion due to The Rings of Power‘s recent continuation. Monolith’s sequel garnered its share of criticism upon release due to its bloated final act that required way too lengthy of a grind to complete; however, this element was improved by a few updates, so it is manageable nowadays.
Putting aside that controversy, Shadow of War delivers fun combat that is accessible without neglecting depth. More importantly, it has the Nemesis system, which means that orcs that kill the player will gain confidence from their successes, allowing them to even move up their army’s ranks.
Mega Man 11
A Modern Refresh Of A Classic Formula
Capcom does not often release a new Mega Man game, which is a shame as they tend to be pretty great. 2018’s Mega Man 11 is the most recent new entry in the franchise, and it serves as a solid entry point for people who might not be that familiar with the Blue Bomber. Meanwhile, long-time fans can look forward to a shiny presentation that mostly respects the traditional formula that helped establish the series as an all-time great.
Now, Mega Man 11 is quite difficult, with players having very little room for error during most situations (particularly the bosses). Consequently, this game should be a good test of Amazon Luna’s viability since lag would be very detrimental to the overall experience.
Super Meat Boy Forever
A Polarizing Successor
Super Meat Boy was one of the most popular indie games of the 2010s, along with being one of the most challenging. A sequel was bound to happen sooner or later, but Super Meat Boy Forever took the IP in a direction that not everyone predicted or necessarily desired. While still hard as nails, the game is an auto-runner rather than a traditional 2D platformer, a change that completely alters the feel of the gameplay.
As a follow-up to Super Meat Boy, SMBF is pretty bad and frustrating. However, as an auto-runner, it is among the genre’s most complete efforts. Therefore, it is worth a try, even if being a fan of the first game means very little in this case.

Games That Have Been Free With Prime For Months
Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition
Amazon Luna with Prime Gaming is having something of a Fallout celebration, which makes sense following the success of Amazon Prime Video’s TV series adaptation of Bethesda’s franchise. Fallout: New Vegas is generally regarded as the high point of the 3D era, at least when it comes to pure role-playing. Obsidian crafted a player-driven campaign that provides plenty of freedom in crafting the Courier’s identity and directing his journey through the eponymous city.
Now, New Vegas is quite old by this point, and it was always rather rough around the edges. On PC, the game has a lively modding community that has not only kept it alive but also improved the vanilla content; unfortunately, mods are not an option on Amazon Luna. Still, if someone wants to try out the base version, this freebie should be great.
Fallout 3: Game Of The Year Edition
Considering its accessibility and longevity, Fallout 3 has likely been experienced by anyone who has ever been remotely interested in it. Nevertheless, the 2008 RPG will always be a big deal in its own right, and it is still fun to play all these years later. At the time, Bethesda’s shift to a 3D sandbox open-world marked a significant departure from previous Fallout entries, and this decision helped propel the series to new commercial heights.
Nowadays, the standard version of Fallout 3 is antiquated in quite a few areas. The gameplay was never particularly good and has not gotten better with age. While not quite as action-driven as Fallout 4, the 2008 release does not emphasize player choices as much as New Vegas or the series’ isometric releases; however, Fallout 3 still offers solid customization and an awesome playground.
Trackmania Starter Access
Ubisoft’s most recent Trackmania project has been around for a couple of years, although it only launched on most platforms in 2023. Unlike most racing games, Trackmania prioritizes time trials and short tracks, with most laps lasting only a small handful of minutes. Although incorporating an online aspect, players will also be competing against themselves as they try to shave a second or two from their best times.
Trackmania is a free-to-play game that only provides a sample of content in its base version. The Starter Access iteration is a bit more robust and should keep people engaged for a while.
Fortnite
is also part of Amazon Luna’s free games with Prime, along with its spin-off modes like
Lego Fortnite
,
Rocket Racing
, and
Fortnite Festival
.
XDefiant
is also available.
