Steam users can try out three very different games – Wildgate, Goat Simulator 3, and Hearts of Iron 4 – for free until November 24. While free play days won’t add titles to a Steam library permanently, they do provide a great opportunity to check out some games that might otherwise have fallen by the wayside for some players. This time, there’s three games to jump into in only three days, luckily just in time for the weekend.

There are many free-to-play games available on Steam and other online storefronts, such as recent hit by Everstone Studio, the open-world action RPG Where Winds Meet, which has a Very Positive rating aggregated from nearly 30,000 reviews only a week after launch. But games that are free to try for a limited are still good to download and test out, serving as a kind of full-access demo. And very often, the games are accompanied by tempting discounts for those who enjoy one or two of them enough to purchase.

Turn-Based RPG Is Free to Play on Steam for a Limited Time

Steam gamers have yet another title to enjoy free for a limited time, this time in the form of a well-received turn-based role-playing game.

3 More Games Are Free to Try on Steam for a Limited Time

Beginning on November 20 and running through Monday, November 24 at 10 AM PST, Steam users can play Wildgate, Goat Simulator 3, and Hearts of Iron 4 for free. These titles fit into three very disparate genres, so there may be something to attract players of all kinds. Of these, Coffee Stain’s wacky sandbox adventure game Goat Simulator 3 may be the most well known. Released in February 2024, the second title in the popular series currently has an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam, and for good reason.

For those unfamiliar with the Goat Simulator games, they really are something to experience rather than to describe. In Goat Simulator 3, players are the goat Pilgor, a destructive force wreaking havoc on the hapless island of San Angora. The irreverent protagonist headbutts, kicks, and licks his way through the streets, leaving a trail of angry inhabitants in his wake. Goat Simulator 3 can be played with up to three friends in online or local co-op, and the game is also currently discounted 60% on Steam. This free-to-play offer arrives just in time to entice new fans to check out the new paid DLC, Badlands: Furry Road, which puts Pilgor on a customizable motorcycle in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

The second game to try out during the weekend that begins on November 20 is a sci-fi-based, first-person, PvPvE multiplayer shooter called Wildgate. The goal is to be the first team to grab the Artifact and make it through the Wildgate, but to accomplish the task, players must upgrade their spaceship while also locating hazards, supplies, hidden treasures, and more powerful weapons. There are several different characters to choose from, called Prospectors, each with their own skills and tools.

And because Wildgate was just released in July 2025, developer Moonshot Games is still actively working on the project. The game’s first major content update, Wildgate: Emergence, just launched on November 19, adding another Prospector character, a new solo or 2-person ship that is perfect for smaller teams, additional locations to explore, and two more game modes. Treasure Hunt is for smaller crews seeking a more casual experience where PvP is optional, and Fleet Battle offers large-scale ship combat for up to 24 players. Wildgate has an overall Very Positive review rating on Steam, earned primarily during the game’s beta period, and is also currently discounted by 50%.

Hearts of Iron 4 is the third game for players to enjoy during this holiday weekend. Of the three, it’s the oldest, having been released by developer Paradox in 2016. Given that head start, it currently has a Very Positive user rating aggregated from over 250,000 reviews. And despite its age, Hearts of Iron 4 hit its concurrent player peak of 93,000 just a year ago, demonstrating that the game can still pull in big numbers.

The strategy game Hearts of Iron 4 lets players take command of an army during World War 2, picking from any nation. It offers deep and detailed systems for recreating the complex battles and encounters of the historic struggle, and the developers still have new content releases planned through at least 2026. Hearts of Iron 4 is currently discounted by 70% on Steam, and because there is nearly 10 years of DLC available for the game, those interested can even pay for a monthly subscription to gain access to all past and future expansions.
