Steam users can currently grab the challenging platformer Banana Hell: Mountain of Madness free of charge. Those who enjoy a difficult challenge should definitely take advantage of the opportunity to add this game to their Steam libraries. However, interested players should act fast, as Banana Hell: Mountain of Madness is only available for free until December 21.

Banana Hell: Mountain of Madness launched in 2024 as the sequel to 2020’s Banana Hell, both from developer Petriheart. However, neither game has particularly managed to find a large audience, with the sequel seeing fewer peak concurrent players on Steam than the original. They exist in the same vein as titles like I Wanna Be The Guy and Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy, both of which are games that are designed to be frustrating. This pretty much limits the audience from the outset, as the number of gamers who enjoy these types of titles is relatively small to begin with. The hope is that this latest free promotion can help showcase Banana Hell: Mountain of Madness and gain a decent player base.

New Sci-Fi Steam Game is Like No Man’s Sky Meets The Forest

Fans of No Man’s Sky and The Forest have a new game to look forward to, thanks to the upcoming release of a sci-fi survival title.

Claim Banana Hell: Mountain of Madness For Free on Steam Until December 21

Gamers can head to Steam right now and grab Banana Hell: Mountain of Madness for free, but only until December 21. Note that there’s no obligation to install the game, but as long as it’s claimed, it will remain tied to the account forever. Developer Petriheart describes Banana Hell: Mountain of Madness as an “extremely hard platform game filled with banana monologues,” which “will require full control and mastery of your jumping techniques.” It also admits that it’s a game designed to make players rage quit, and players will need to spend hours learning the pixel-perfect jumps to beat the deliberately difficult design. At times, Banana Hell: Mountain of Madness may even feel unfair, and that’s the point. Players are accompanied on their adventure by Banana Johnson, described by the game’s store page as “amazing company filled with bad jokes.”

At the time of writing, Banana Hell: Mountain of Madness doesn’t have many reviews – 18, to be exact. However, of those 18 reviews, all but one are positive, with the general sentiment being that it lives up to its description as a game designed to challenge and frustrate players all the same. One gamer even described it as being “fun in a masochistic kind of way,” and several reviews commented positively on the soundtrack. The one negative review claims that Banana Hell: Mountain of Madness “doesn’t ease you into the game before smacking you around the head,” which might actually be exactly what someone who likes this genre of game is looking for. Some did feel the game was too short, which is worth noting. At full price, this title won’t exactly break the bank at $0.99, but it’s still a good opportunity for gamers to add another game to their Steam library without spending a cent.

Steam seems to be giving out plenty of free games throughout the holiday season. Banana Hell: Mountain of Madness is the latest to join the roster, but Steam users can also claim titles like 100% Orange Juice, Toy Tinker Simulator, and Rat Quest over the next few days. At the rate that these free Steam games are being handed out, it would not be a huge surprise to see even more free stuff go live over the holidays.
