A reputable insider recently claimed that Valve could “quite possibly” reveal Half-Life 3 in 2025. This is excellent news for Half-Life fans, as the community has been asking for a sequel for two decades, with many fans starting to lose hope.
The first Half-Life was released in 1998 and is often considered one of the best FPS games of all time. While the title had two expansion packs, Opposing Force and Blue Shift, it would only get a true sequel with Half-Life 2 in 2004. The game’s story continued with Episode One and Episode Two, and a third installment was planned but eventually scrapped. In 2020, the VR game Half-Life: Alyx was released, but a true sequel was not yet officially announced.

Now, insider Gabe Follower, known for reporting leaks about Valve, has claimed that the company has already started to playtest Half-Life 3 with “a small group of friends and family” and that the game could be officially announced in 2025. To give more credibility to these rumors, the insider also claimed that, according to LinkedIn, Valve has recently recruited several new developers, including people who worked on the original Half-Life and Left 4 Dead. Despite Gabe Follower being a trustworthy leaker, it’s always best to take these rumors with a grain of salt, as there’s no guarantee that Half-Life 3 will ever be released, even if it’s already in development.
Insider Claims Valve Could Reveal Half-Life 3 in 2025
Despite most fans losing hope that Half-Life 3 will ever come out, recent developments have shown that the franchise is not completely forgotten. Half-Life: Alyx received positive reviews, for example, which could have likely increased Valve’s interest in a proper sequel.
Half-Life 2 also recently saw a big player count spike on Steam due to the 20th anniversary of the popular FPS, reaching 50,000 concurrent players for the first time in its history. Valve making Half-Life 2 free to keep for a limited time likely helped the title reach these numbers, but it also shows that the interest in the franchise remains high.
Last month, Half-Life 2 also got a new patch, which addressed some audio and display issues and improved certain technical aspects such as gamepad stick sensitivity, which can now be adjusted. In any case, it’s still unclear when or if Half-Life 3 will actually come out, so all gamers can do is play the updated version of the three already-released games while waiting for more news.
