September is shaping up to be an amazing month for games, including Hollow Knight: Silksong, Borderlands 4, and Silent Hill f. It’s going to kick off the fall season well. But, for something different, let’s also celebrate the past by looking at notable game characters who were born in September.
The Zodiac signs for September include Virgo for the most part, with a little bit of Libra toward the end. Virgos are typically practical in their day-to-day lives, while Libras try to find balance in everything. Do these September-born characters fall into these Zodiac categories? They don’t need to, but it’s fun taking in astrological signs anyway.
Joel Miller (The Last of Us Part 1)
A Father Trying To Do His Best
Joel’s birthday is an easy one to deduce in The Last of Us Part 1, as that’s how the game opens. His birthday ends in tragedy though, which then sets up Joel as a hardened no-nonsense character as the game’s protagonist. Technically, he’s a Libra, but it would make more sense if he were a Virgo since Joel tends to think more about his plans. It doesn’t mean they’re always the best ideas, as Joel thinks with his heart too. Either way, this rough around the edges father became a favorite character for many PlayStation fans.
Zidane Tribal (Final Fantasy 9)

Zidane is the protagonist of Final Fantasy 9, and while the original manual didn’t come with birthdays, the Final Fantasy 9 Ultimania Japanese guide did list them. Zidane is brimming with charisma, a trait more properly associated with Libras, pointing to Zidane perhaps being born toward the latter half of September. As a thief, Zidane goes where the wind blows, but he soon finds himself in the business of saving kingdoms and princesses. He may start as someone only interested in the big heist, but it soon becomes apparent that what truly matters to Zidane is his friends.
Petra (Fire Emblem: Three Houses)
An Assassin Out Of Water
Petra is one of the party members in Fire Emblem: Three Houses who belongs to the Black Eagles. She begins as a Commoner class, meaning she’s a proficient sword fighter, but her talents really unlock if players train her to be an Assassin.
Petra, regardless of her birth, is one of the funniest characters in the game as she’s kind of like a fish out of water who doesn’t know how to speak properly, which doesn’t quite fit in with the Zodiacs. Her word jumbles are a highlight, but her loyalty is true to Edelgard, leader of the Black Eagles.

Masamune is a historical figure in Japanese history, who was born centuries ago. His Samurai Warriors counterpart is seemingly a cooler individual who loves blasting enemies with guns. He may be missing an eye, but Masamune’s aim remains steadfast and true, along with his goals of conquering Japan. His lust for power remains true in most iterations in the series, but he isn’t a monster. Masamune’s ambitious nature doesn’t fall nearly into his assigned Zodiac alignments.
Clorinde (Genshin Impact)
A Classic Gun/Sword Combo
Genshin Impact hasn’t stopped adding characters since it launched in 2020, which is how a lot of free-to-play games manage to make their money. While fans certainly have their favorites, most added characters are fun to use, like Clorinde. She was added in 2024 and has lightning-infused magic and uses a sword and gun combo in battle. Her fighting skills are deadly, but outside of battle, she has a soothing voice. Clorinde’s tone conveys a bit of the analytical side of Virgos, and players would be lucky to get unlock her in Genshin Impact.
Akihiko Sanada (Persona 3)
A Boxing Champ
Akihiko is one of the party members in Persona 3, who takes a bit to unlock as he suffers an early injury. In school, he’s a boxer, and he puts those skills to the test against demons in battle with rock-hard punches.
He can come across as a bit cold and quick to anger, but Akihiko is dealing with a lot in the game, which players can uncover through Social Links. He does have a sillier side, too, as Akihiko is not good with much outside of boxing.
Balrog (Street Fighter 2)
A Punch Above The Rest
Balrog is a boxer who was first introduced in Street Fighter 2. From anime adaptations to video games, Balrog’s personality changes all the time. Also, there’s not much to go on in the games since Street Fighter isn’t cutscene cutscene-heavy series. That said, it’s obvious that Balrog is at least a determined champion who values a good, fair fight in the streets or in a boxing ring, and his mind is sharp enough to strategize on his feet.
Oh Lolli-Lolli Lollipop
Koki is an antagonist in The World Ends with You, who also returns in NEO: The World Ends with You. Koki is a high-level Reaper, someone who guides players in the game that the protagonist, Neku, is trapped in. He can often be found sucking on a lollipop without much care in the world. He is smart like a Virgo, but he doesn’t make an effort to apply his wits often, and when he does, it’s troublesome for anyone he is facing.
