The Darkmoon Faire has been a part of World of Warcraft all the way back since Patch 1.6. This monthly carnival event got a massive revamp back during Patch 4.3. Since then, all sorts of new activities, rewards, and mini-games have been added to give players a reason to head back to the mysterious Darkmoon Island where the faire takes place.
No matter what your level is or how many years you’ve been playing World of Warcraft, there is always a reason to take a break from your usual activities and go to the Darkmoon Faire, especially during a new expansion like The War Within.
How to Get to the Darkmoon Faire
Darkmoon Island is only accessible when the Darkmoon Faire event is active. Without the portals, you have no way of getting there. There are two portals to reach Darkmoon Island. The first is near the Goldshire Inn in Elywnn Forest. The second portal can be found next to Thunderbluff in Mulgore. The first portal can be used by the Alliance, while the second portal is intended for the Horde.
Alternatively, you can speak to a Darkmoon Faire Mystic Mage in any major city. For a small convenience fee, they will teleport you directly to one of the portals to Darkmoon Island.
Darkmoon Faire Schedule
The Darkmoon Faire only runs for one week every month. It always takes place on the first full week of every month. Dates for the Darkmoon Faire in September through November 2024 have been provided below as examples.

Why Go to the Darkmoon Faire
Whether it is for variety or for rewards, there are plenty of reasons to spend some time at the Darkmoon Faire. The biggest reason to go is for your professions. For all primary and secondary professions, there are special quests that you can pick up at the Darkmoon Faire. These quests are straight forward and can easily be completed in a few minutes.
Upon completing any of these quests, you obtain the following rewards:
- EXP (If you are not at level cap)
- +2 Profession Skill (If you are not skill capped)
- Darkmoon Game Token (Used to play carnival games around the faire)
- Darkmoon Prize Ticket (Currency for rewards)
- Profession Knowledge (Where applicable)
Profession rewards aside, there are plenty of cosmetics that you can earn from the Darkmoon Faire. This includes mounts, pets, toys, and cosmetic armor appearances to be used for Transmog. All these rewards can be purchased with Darkmoon Prize Tickets, which are acquired by completing daily mini-games at the Darkmoon Faire and completing the profession quests mentioned above.
