Xiaomi has announced a major new feature for its smartphones with the rollout of HyperOS 3. The latest software update brings AirDrop-compatible file sharing to Xiaomi devices through Android’s Quick Share, allowing users to transfer photos, videos, and other files directly to iPhones, iPads, and other Apple devices.
The move follows a growing trend among Android manufacturers to improve cross-platform connectivity. Google first introduced AirDrop compatibility through Quick Share on the Pixel 10 series, while Samsung and OPPO have already expanded similar functionality to their latest flagship smartphones.
Xiaomi Brings AirDrop Compatibility via HyperOS 3
In a post shared on X, Xiaomi confirmed that HyperOS 3, based on Android 16, now supports AirDrop-compatible transfers through Quick Share. The feature enables Xiaomi smartphone users to seamlessly share files with Apple devices without relying on third-party applications.
Xiaomi demonstrated the functionality using the recently launched Xiaomi 17T Pro. In the company’s video, a photo is transferred from the smartphone to an iPhone within seconds, highlighting the speed and convenience of the new feature.
While the Xiaomi 17T Pro is currently confirmed to support the feature, the company has not yet revealed which older devices will receive AirDrop compatibility. However, the functionality is expected to gradually roll out to more HyperOS 3-powered smartphones in the coming months.
Cross-Platform File Sharing Gets Easier
For years, AirDrop remained exclusive to Apple’s ecosystem, making file transfers between iPhones and Android devices less convenient. Users often had to depend on cloud services, messaging apps, or third-party file-sharing solutions.
That situation began to change when Google introduced AirDrop-compatible sharing through Quick Share on the Pixel 10 series. The feature later expanded to the Pixel 9 lineup, making cross-platform transfers much more accessible.
Samsung followed suit earlier this year by adding similar functionality to its Galaxy S26 series through Quick Share. OPPO also joined the trend, with the Find X9 series becoming the brand’s first smartphones to support AirDrop-compatible file sharing.
With HyperOS 3, Xiaomi is now bringing the same level of convenience to its users. The update significantly improves interoperability between Android and Apple devices, making it easier than ever to share files across ecosystems without additional apps or complicated setup processes.
