The Epic Games Store‘s eighth free mystery game is 2019’s Control. December is always an exciting month for Epic Games Store users, as that’s when they are treated to the platform’s biggest free giveaway promotion. The annual event gives Epic Games Store users the chance to claim a wide variety of free games for their digital libraries as a way to celebrate the holidays and count down to the new year.
This year, the Epic Games Store free mystery game promotion kicked off with The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, followed by Vampire Survivors, Astrea: Six-Sided Oracles, TerraTech, Wizard of Legend, Dark and Darker – Legendary Status, and the critically-acclaimed fishing horror game Dredge. Dredge has since been cycled out of the Epic Games Store free games lineup and replaced by the latest free game.

Here’s a list of all the games that have ever been made available for free on the Epic Games Store.
The Epic Games Store free mystery game for December 25 is Control. Released in 2019 by Remedy Entertainment, Control is an award-winning third-person shooter that helps connect the greater Remedy gaming universe. Control‘s action-packed gameplay earned it a great deal of praise at the time of its release in 2019, with many considering it one of the best games to ever come from the acclaimed studio. Epic Games Store users can now claim Control completely free of charge as long as they do so by Thursday, December 26 at 10:00am CST (the EGS launcher actually says 11:00am CST right now, but that appears to be an error according to the countdown to the next free game). At that point, Control will be removed from the EGS free games lineup and replaced with the next title, whatever it may be.

While there will likely be many fans happy that they can get Control for free, there may be some Epic Games Store devotees who are disappointed. Epic Games Store users that have made it a point to claim every free game that the platform has had to offer will already have Control in their library. Control was one of the free Epic Games Store games in 2021, after all. But while this is a repeat for some Epic Games Store users, it’s great news for those that missed out on the initial giveaway.
Control being free on the Epic Games Store continues the strong momentum of this year’s free mystery game event. Most of the Epic Games Store free mystery games this year have either been critical darlings or have high user ratings, with Control enjoying both. The Epic Games Store free mystery game promotion is certainly on a roll, and it will be interesting to see what the next free games have to offer.
