Fortnite developer Epic Games has won a lawsuit against a player who was found to be cheating during a tournament, and the individual has a hefty fine to pay. Fortnite was first launched in 2017 and offers ten core game modes for thrill-seekers to try, including LEGO-themed collaborations, a Rocket League-styled racing mode, creative mode, and the classic Battle Royale.

Regarding the battle royale’s upcoming content, a new Fortnite survey teased the potential Chapter 7 Season 2 theme, after two leaked images allegedly revealed Nordic-themed skins. While players speculate about future chapters, Epic Games has been fighting a legal battle behind the scenes, and the developer has now emerged victorious.

Fortnite Has Good News for Blitz Royale Fans

New details have been revealed detailing the future of Blitz Royale in Fortnite, and it’s great news for fans of this game mode.

Confirmed by the Fortnite Competitive Twitter account, it was announced that the judge ruled in Epic’s favor after the cheating player attempted to ignore the developer’s lawsuit. Consequently, the cheater is now required to pay $175,000, and they have also been permanently banned from playing Fortnite. Additionally, Epic will be donating the player’s fine to charity. Epic confirmed it was suing the Fortnite cheater late last year, after a competitive player was found to be cheating in tournaments. Further details confirmed the player was using both hardware and software to cheat in matches, and reportedly had multiple accounts to reduce the chances of getting caught.

The Fortnite community had plenty to say on the matter, and some Call of Duty players wanted to see Activision take this sort of no-nonsense approach more often. Some went a step further to say “kids in regular lobbies” are hurting the shooter and consistently ruin genuine players’ gameplay. Some fans take the matter of cheating into their own hands, like one Fortnite player who performed a simple trick to remove cheaters, but a majority of the player base was thrilled to see Epic taking such a steadfast stand against cheaters.

This isn’t the first time the developer has publicly tackled cheaters, as Epic previously forced a Fortnite tournament cheater to post an apology video and then donated their winnings to charity. Cheating has, unfortunately, become commonplace in live-service games like Fortnite, but Epic is continuously cracking down on these individuals by filing several lawsuits against them. The developer not only targets competitive players, but also those who steal Fortnite accounts for resale, and there’s also a strict restriction on Cronus hardware that offers in-game advantages.
