Samsung is reportedly planning a new foldable phone called the “Wide Fold” for next year. The device is said to offer a tablet-like layout aimed directly at competing with Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
A report from South Korea-based ETNews claims the Samsung “Wide Fold” will sit alongside the regular Galaxy Z Fold line. The company is expected to bring this phone next fall.
Samsung Wide Fold: What to Expect
According to ETNews, the Samsung “Wide Fold” will differ sharply from the tall Galaxy Z Fold design. The upcoming phone will reportedly use a wider form factor, making it resemble a compact tablet when opened.
The Samsung “Wide Fold” is tipped to feature a 7.6-inch inner OLED screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio. The outer display will reportedly measure 5.4 inches, giving the device a passport-like footprint when unfolded. Moreover, the phone is expected to ship with 25W wireless charging.
Samsung Wide Fold to Compete with Apple’s Foldable iPhone
Apple is also said to be working on a foldable iPhone with similar dimensions to the Samsung “Wide Fold”. Reports suggest Apple’s device could include a 7.58-inch inner screen, also using a 4:3 aspect ratio. Apple’s foldable is also tipped to see light next fall alongside new iPhones.
ETNews reports that Samsung will broaden the Galaxy Z portfolio next year with three models. The range is expected to include one Galaxy Z Flip, a standard Fold, and the wider Samsung “Wide Fold”.
As of now, there is no official confirmation regarding the Samsung “Wide Fold”, with details based entirely on industry reports. If these claims hold, Samsung customers may soon choose between a taller book-style Fold and a wider notebook-style option within the same Galaxy Z family.
