Early details around the OnePlus 16 are starting to surface, and they point to OnePlus experimenting with some aggressive hardware upgrades. According to tipster Debayan Roy (@Gadgetsdata), the company is evaluating a flagship device with major changes to the battery, display, and camera setup.

A 9,000mAh Battery and 240Hz Display? OnePlus 16 Leaks Get Interesting

Separately, well-known leaker Digital Chat Station has also shared camera-related details that line up with this direction.

There’s an important caveat, though. This particular configuration may end up being China-exclusive, which means global markets might not see all of these features in the final retail model.

An Ultra-High Refresh Rate Display Is Being Tested

One of the more striking details is the display. OnePlus is said to be testing a flat LTPO OLED panel with either a 180Hz or 240Hz refresh rate.

OnePlus 16 under evaluation with these features :

✅ 180Hz or 240Hz flat LTPO OLED display

    ✅ 50MP main + 50MP UW + 200MP Periscope telephoto

    ✅ ~9000mAh battery

But it might be 🇨🇳 exclusive‼️

That’s far beyond what most current flagships offer and suggests OnePlus is pushing smoothness to the extreme, likely targeting gaming and fast UI interactions. Whether such high refresh rates make a noticeable difference in everyday use is still debatable, but it shows the company is willing to experiment at this stage.

Camera Hardware Could See a Notable Jump

Cameras are another area where OnePlus may be stepping things up. The leaked setup includes a 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide, and a 200MP periscope telephoto lens.

The 200MP periscope detail, which has also been echoed by Digital Chat Station in recent leaks, hints at a stronger focus on long-range zoom photography.

As always, sensor size and tuning will matter more than megapixel counts alone, but the direction itself is interesting.

The Battery Is the Real Talking Point

The biggest headline feature is the battery. The OnePlus 16 is reportedly being tested with a roughly 9,000mAh battery, which would be a significant jump over the already large 7,300mAh battery found in the OnePlus 15.

The battery is said to use Glacier Battery technology, developed in partnership with CATL. This high-density design aims to increase capacity without making the phone noticeably thicker, while also improving thermal performance.

How This Fits Into OnePlus’ Broader Plans

If OnePlus follows a similar launch schedule as past models, the OnePlus 16 is still months away, likely targeting a late-2026 release. That leaves plenty of room for specifications to change before anything is finalized.

There’s also growing talk of OnePlus expanding the lineup this year. Alongside the standard OnePlus 16 and a possible OnePlus 16R, the company could introduce a higher-end Pro or Ultra variant. It wouldn’t be surprising if these more extreme specs are being tested specifically for that top-tier model.

    The China-Exclusive Question Still Looms

Availability remains the biggest unknown. If this configuration stays limited to China, global versions of the OnePlus 16 could end up looking far more familiar.

For now, these leaks offer a glimpse into what OnePlus is testing behind the scenes, not a confirmed product roadmap. Official details will ultimately decide how much of this makes it to the final device.
