Apple is reportedly gearing up to enter the affordable laptop segment for the first time. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the Cupertino-based tech giant is developing a budget-friendly Mac, which will feature an iPhone chip instead of a MacBook’s M series processor. Here’s what the latest report suggests.
Entry-level MacBook Reportedly in works
According to the report, the upcoming Mac is designed for students, professionals, and everyday users and will cater to those who mainly browse the web, work on documents, or conduct light media editing. Apple is also said to be eyeing potential iPad buyers who may prefer the laptop experience instead.

The report suggests the upcoming Mac, codenamed J700, is undergoing active testing at Apple and early production with overseas suppliers. The report further stated that the new MacBook will feature an A-series processor, used for iPhones, instead of an M-series chip. While Gurman didn’t reveal the processor name, other reports suggested that Apple could use the A18 Pro for its entry-level Mac, the same chip found in the iPhone 16 Pro series models.
It is also tipped to sport a lower-end LCD display. The screen is said to be slightly smaller than the 13.6-inch panel found on the current MacBook Air. As far as the launch is concerned, the entry-level Mac may arrive in the first half of next year. However, Apple has declined to comment on the development. In terms of pricing, it’s said to be available below $1,000 (around Rs 88,625). Since all are speculations, we would suggests our readers take this with a pinch of salt and stay tuned for the more information regarding this.
