MUMBAI, 10 April 2025: The FEV Group, based in Germany, has teamed up with Mahindra & Mahindra to create an innovative lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery system for its upcoming Electric Origin SUVs.
The company plans to offer this in two capacities: 59 and 79 kWh, allowing users to charge from 20% to 80% in under 20 minutes.
The jointly developed battery platform meets the standards set by organisations such as IEC, ISO, UL, SAE, and AIS in the Indian market.
According to company representatives, the collaboration on battery technology brings together FEV’s automotive engineering expertise and Mahindra’s strong market presence in India.
FEV is a global engineering firm with 7,000 employees spread across 40 locations worldwide, whereas the Mahindra Group employs 260,000 people in over 100 countries and is the market leader in farm equipment, utility vehicles, and information technology in India.
The company conducted extensive real-world performance evaluations of these batteries at Mahindra’s research facilities and FEV’s eDLP near Leipzig, Germany, the world’s largest independent high-voltage battery testing facility.
The battery system was thoroughly tested at Mahindra’s Indian R&D centre and FEV’s eDLP facility, with fuel fire, nail penetration, and rollover tests. According to company representatives, presales for the FEV battery system began in mid-February and are now in series production.
