Motorola seems to be leaning into the idea that slim phones don’t always have to feel like a compromise. The company has started teasing the Moto X70 Air Pro in China, and from the early signs, this looks like a more capable version of its thin-phone formula. The launch is expected in the coming weeks, likely sometime in January.
The messaging so far is pretty clear. Motorola is positioning the X70 Air Pro as a step up from the standard Air model, focusing on areas where slim phones usually fall short.
Cameras Look Like a Bigger Focus This Time
In teaser posts shared on Weibo, Motorola repeatedly refers to the phone as being “more Pro,” with a noticeable emphasis on AI-backed features. Cameras seem to be a key part of that pitch.
The company is teasing a triple rear camera setup that includes a periscope telephoto lens. That’s not something you see often on ultra-slim phones. Zoom cameras are usually the first feature brands drop when thickness becomes a priority. If Motorola manages to keep the phone thin while still offering usable optical zoom, that alone would make the X70 Air Pro stand out in this segment.
Faster Charging Could Make It Easier to Live With
Charging also looks set to get a meaningful upgrade. A device believed to be the Moto X70 Air Pro has appeared on China’s 3C certification database with support for up to 90W wired fast charging. That’s a clear jump from the 67W charging on the Moto X70 Air and the globally available Motorola Edge 70.
Motorola hasn’t confirmed battery capacity yet, but faster charging usually pairs well with slim phones. When battery size is limited by design, quick top-ups matter more, especially for daily use.
Performance Stays Sensible, Not Flagship-Level
On the performance side, the phone has previously shown up on Geekbench, pointing to the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 5. That would place the Moto X70 Air Pro in the upper mid-range. It should be a noticeable step up from the regular Air model without pushing the phone into full flagship pricing territory.
There’s still some uncertainty here. Separate leaks suggest Motorola could also be working on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 device under a different lineup, so this Pro model may be about balance rather than raw power.
