RPGs are known for their immersive amount of stats and options for every player, and Baldur’s Gate 3 earned various rewards for making the D&D-based character creation process. Character creation and progression are some of the main features of one of history’s most successful RPGs, and options include various items that help raise a character’s important Ability Scores.
Charisma is a crucial spellcasting modifier for Paladins, Warlocks, Sorcerers, and Bards, so the higher it is the better hit chance or amount of damage depending on the nature of the spell. There are also a ton of different items in the game, some of which directly relate to Charisma, by either being very powerful for characters needing the stat, or outright increasing said stat.
Updated September 19, 2024, by Kristy Ambrose: Throughout the three acts that make up the story of Baldur’s Gate 3, items that bolster charisma are incredibly valuable and should be picked up by any of the classes that scale with the stat. Players should keep in mind that Charisma is a unique Ability Score that also determines how NPCs and Companions interact with their Tav or Durge, which includes lower prices at merchants and taverns. Keeping that in mind, these items are invaluable.
10 Gibus Of The Worshipful Servant
Sold By Helisk In The Devil’s Fee Or Dropped By Sceleritas
- Gives the user Momentum equal to their Charisma modifier
Some classes that use charisma are already more mobile than others, with increased movement to get closer to foes. Even still, the ability to obtain some extra movement is a welcome bonus, allowing players to traverse a battlefield more easily, and the Gibus of the Worshipful Servant grants such a boon.
Movement, and by relation momentum, is a crucial feature of Baldur’s Gate 3, and gifting characters with more of it equal to their charisma modifier can be very strong. Bards, warlocks, sorcerers, and paladins will be the prime candidates for the item, given that they use the stat. Aside from extra movement, the item also gives Advantage on constitution saving throws, which is a nice little bonus.
9 Harmonic Dueller
Bought From Entharl Danthelon
- Deals extra melee damage equal to the user’s Charisma modifier
The first class most people will likely associate rapiers with will be warlocks given Wyll’s penchant for using them. While it is common that rapiers are used on spellblade classes, the Harmonic Dueller can still be a worthwhile acquisition regardless, given its class actions that let characters use their charisma modifier to deal bonus damage depending on how high the stat is.
As warlocks and bards are two of the most used classes to wield rapiers, the Harmonic Dueller can be valuable to them. As the two classes utilize charisma as their main stat, the bonus damage from the Harmonic Dueller becomes a strong ability.
8 Helmet Of Smiting
Found In A Chest In The Selunite Outpost
- Grants temporary hit points based on the user’s Charisma modifier
Paladins are one of the most notorious classes in Baldur’s Gate 3. They have a ton of versatility and can deal insane amounts of damage when built correctly.
The Helmet of Smiting can fit in well with a Paladin character as it grants temporary hit points equal to the user’s charisma modifier when a smite spell is used. As a central part of their kit, smites are one of the main ways a paladin deals damage, with the class using charisma to improve spellcasting, making the Helmet of Smiting worthwhile.
7 Tyrannical Jackboots
Looted From Enver Gortash
- Grants the wearer the Scintillating condition
Enver Gortash isn’t just powerful and intimidating, he’s also quick and clever, but it’s not all natural talent. His footwear, the Tyrannical Jackboots, reflect who he is with their stylish look and handy bonuses to Charisma.
Any character wearing these boots has the Scintillating condition, which gives them Advantage on Charisma saving throws and ability checks. These powers might explain how Gortash was able to charm so many people and become the prominent leader of Baldur’s Gate.
6 Infernal Rapier
A Reward For Wyll’s Personal Quest In The Mind Flayer Colony
- Uses the Spellcasting Modifier For Attack Rolls
The Infernal Rapier doesn’t immediately have any abilities that directly pinpoint the use of charisma, but it does use the wielder’s spellcasting modifier for attack rolls. As it is rewarded from Wyll’s questline, and that warlocks and bards are the most likely classes to wield rapiers, the weapon can benefit well from high charisma investment.
As it uses the spellcasting modifier of the user, which would most likely be charisma, it can further the amount of damage dealt by classes wielding it by a good portion, making it a valuable acquisition. It also comes with some bonus abilities, such as a +1 increase to spell save dice rolls, and the option to summon a cambion.
5 Potent Robe
A Reward For Completion “Rescue the Tieflings” In Act 2
- Deals extra damage and grants temporary hit points equal to the Charisma modifier
Warlocks and Sorcerers are the primary classes that utilize magic in conjunction with Charisma, so having an item that deals extra damage via Cantrips equal to their Charisma modifier is extremely powerful. Bards and Paladins also use charisma, but Warlocks and Sorcerers will be the main classes to use the Potent Robe. It also gifts temporary hit points equal to the Charisma modifier at the beginning of a turn.
The ability to deal extra damage is an amazing bonus, making the robe a no-brainer to obtain, especially given Warlocks are already powerful and utilize cantrips heavily, with Sorcerers also being extremely strong. The temporary hit points bonus is a beneficial ability, as both classes are more glass canons, with not as much health or defense compared to others.
4 Auntie Ethel’s Hair
Make Certain Dialogue Choices After Reducing Her Health Using Non-Lethal Damage
- Grants a permanent +1 bonus to a chosen Ability Score
Auntie Ethel’s Hair is one of the most obvious choices for every class to obtain on a playthrough, given its ability to permanently increase a stat by +1. It can be acquired immediately after waking up from the prologue and will stay with the characters until the end of the game.
Ethel’s health has to be reduced to 20% or lower before this dialogue can be triggered. Charisma can be increased by +1 for any of the classes that require it, making for a very powerful item. It can also be stacked with other charisma-boosting items, further improving how powerful a build can be.
3 The Mirror of Loss
In The House Of Grief
- The character gains a permanent bonus to one Ability Score, and +1 to Charisma in exchange for a temporary debuff.
There are two versions of this oversized reflective surface in the game, but only one of them can be used to improve a character’s Charisma Ability Score. The mirror in the Gauntlet of Shar is damaged, but everyone in the party can use the one in the House of Grief.
The mirrors of Shar are mysterious, and there are various ways to gain permanent Ability improvements from the mirror. It can’t be used at all until one party member passes either an Arcana or Religion check, following the sacrifice of one of the character’s memories. Shadowheart has some special dialogue related to the mirror and depending on whether she has turned against Shar. If she remains loyal, she gets a +2 bonus to Charisma, but if she defies the dark goddess, she can’t use the mirror at all.
2 Birthright
Bought From Socerer’s Sundries
Any items that flat-out increase the stat of a character are incredibly valuable. Birthright does just that by increasing Charisma by +2 up to a total of 22. The Charisma-boosting ability of Birthright can be stacked, but it must be used before reaching 22 Charisma.
All the classes that utilize Charisma will find Birthright a place in their build, as increasing the stat they use to gain proficiency in spells is a must-have for dealing with tough enemies. It might not look or possess the most flashy of abilities, but the simple effect of increasing Charisma by a +2 should not be understated.
1 Duke Ravengard’s Longsword
Loot From Duke Ulder Ravengard
- Increases Charisma by +2 and grants temporary hit points equal to the user’s Charisma modifier
Much like the case with Birthright, Duke Ravengard’s Longsword can increase charisma by +2, making for a valuable weapon. Unlike Birthright, Duke Ravengard’s Longsword also has an ability that lets allies gain temporary hit points equal to the user’s Charisma modifier whenever they kill an enemy.
The increase of charisma is a powerful boost that is clearly strong for any class that utilizes the stat, yet the temporary hit point bonus is useful for support classes, such as Bard. Still useful in other classes, but when wielded by a Bard, it can further increase just how powerful such characters can be.
