Bangalore, April 4, 2025:
TVS Motors has strategically decided to incorporate the assets, intellectual property, and talent of Singapore-based Ion Mobility into its operations.
Ion Mobility, known for producing the MI-5 electric motorcycle, is a comprehensive electric vehicle (EV) company recognized for its strong in-house capabilities in industrial and product design, mechanical and electrical engineering, embedded and power electronics, firmware, software, and supply chain management.
Earlier this week, TVS Motor Company announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, TVS Motor (Singapore) Pte Ltd, has acquired specific assets from Ion Mobility while also divesting its stake in the company.
As a result of this acquisition, James Chan, the founder and CEO of Ion Mobility, has joined TVS Motor Company as senior vice president. In his new role, James is overseeing TVS’s operations in the ASEAN region and is also leading the development and launch of the M1-S electric mobility platform.
The M1-S has already attracted significant interest in ASEAN markets due to its eye-catching design, impressive range, rapid acceleration, and suitability for everyday commuting.
This integration, along with TVS Motor’s extensive expertise in electric mobility, represents a significant advancement in exploring new opportunities within the region, informed to senior company officials.
Sharad Mohan Mishra, president of group strategy at TVS Motor Company, elaborated on the integration, stating, “Our ‘Reimagine 2030’ vision aligns closely with their mission. With the acquisition of Ion Mobility’s assets, intellectual property, and core team, we are excited to infuse their entrepreneurial spirit, design innovation, and engineering prowess into TVS Motor.
Coupled with our research and development capabilities, quality systems, and manufacturing scale, this collaboration positions us to enhance our market presence and expand our share throughout Southeast Asia.”
TVS, which has over 600,000 customers opting for its flagship electric scooter, the TVS iQube, has established comprehensive in-house capabilities across various EV components, including battery systems, battery management, vehicle control units, and connected platforms, and holds more than 650 patents in the field, other company officials said.
