Lord of the Rings fans who want to take on the epic journey through Middle-earth one more time or for the first time will face a great challenge come August 1. Stemming from the creative mind of director Peter Jackson, The Lord of the Rings trilogy is one of the most captivating experiences fantasy lovers can embark on, as it weaves the world and words of legendary author J.R.R. Tolkien into a stunning and unforgettable tapestry of adventure, despair, and hope.

First released over two decades ago, Tolkien’s masterpieces have stood the test of time and are considered a cultural phenomenon that has had a profound impact on the film industry and popular culture to this day. While many fans might consider The Lord of the Rings franchise a lot more complex in terms of its deeper narrative and higher stakes than Tolkien’s The Hobbit, the prequel takes place 60 years before the events in Middle Earth and, for most fantasy followers, is a must-watch before tucking into the group’s journey to Mordor in a bid to destroy the ring once and for all. Praised for its amazing cinematics, combat sequences, and deeply moving score, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King was the most successful out of the bunch, grossing over $1.137 billion worldwide and winning Best Picture at the Oscars, a first for a fantasy film, which, in turn, pushed the boundaries on how the fantasy genre was viewed forever.

New Poll Ranks This Lord of the Rings Movie as the Best but Some Middle-Earth Fans Won’t Be Happy

A new poll has placed one Lord of the Rings movie above the rest in the trilogy, adding to its already debatable ranking.

Nothing can usually beat a good binge-watch, and movie lovers can’t go wrong with The Lord of the Rings trilogy to cozy up to after a long day for the ultimate escapism. However, August 1 will prove a dire day for those who still haven’t watched the epic adventure yet, as all three movies will be wiped from Prime Video, which means that returning ‘Ringers’ and Tolkien fans, or those completely new to the franchise, will have a very short window to cram in all 683 minutes of the currently available extended versions.

Thankfully, all hope is not lost when the trilogy does make its way from the streaming service, as fans can still pick up the collection to watch at any time without the need for a subscription. Featuring both the extended and theatrical cuts of all three Lord of the Rings films on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and digital, the collection is a must for Tolkien lovers and also for those who love physical media. And for only around $80 for the 4K version, it’s a great investment for the full epic saga in stunning high-quality, especially for those incredible views across Lothlórien, Edoras and the River Anduin.

As for The Lord of the Rings news, The Hunt for Gollum is slated to be released on December 17, 2027, which is still quite a bit of a wait for eager fans. However, star and director Andy Serkis is set to reprise his role as Gollum, where fans will witness what the creature who was horribly corrupted by the Ring got up to in between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
