We all know that the iPhone Duo didn’t get the start that was expected. Apple’s first-ever foldable phone saw reports of cracked inner displays, creaking hinges and software glitches hours after it reached customers. Now, Apple wants to know how customers feel about the device. Read on.

Apple Sends iPhone Duo Owners A Detailed Feedback Survey
According to a report by MacRumors, Apple is sending email surveys to select iPhone Duo owners to understand their experience with the foldable. The questionnaire begins by asking why they decided to buy the phone in the first place. Users can choose from options such as wanting to try Apple’s first foldable, making an impulse purchase or expecting smartphone prices to increase in the near future.
The next set of questions gets more specific about the phone’s design. Apple wants to know how they feel about the 5.4-inch outer display when the phone is folded. This is sort of interesting because the screen is close in size to the display on Apple’s discontinued iPhone mini models.
The company then asks users how noticeable they find the crease on the inner folding display. Since a visible crease is one of the common concerns with foldable phones, Apple appears to be interested in knowing how much it affects the everyday experience.
Another question focuses on the under-display camera. Apple asks whether the camera is distracting or uncomfortable to use. It also wants buyers to rate the image quality from this camera, which has a 4-megapixel resolution. This is another area that has received criticism in early product reviews.
The survey ends with an open-ended question, allowing customers to suggest features they would like Apple to add or change on the iPhone Duo. This gives users an opportunity to share feedback beyond the specific areas covered in the questionnaire.
Interestingly, the survey does not directly ask about some of the other complaints surrounding the foldable. These include the reported screen cracks, the absence of Face ID and problems with apps that have not been optimised for the foldable display.
Apple regularly sends surveys after launching new products, so this move does not automatically mean the company is planning major changes to the iPhone Duo. However, with its first foldable already facing criticism from some early buyers, the feedback could help Apple understand which parts of the experience need more attention.
What Went Wrong With The iPhone Duo?
As mentioned already, the iPhone Duo’s launch has not been entirely smooth. Within hours of the phone reaching some customers, reports of cracks appearing on the inner folding display began circulating online. Some users claimed to have noticed damage near the hinge, with visible lines, dead pixels and, in certain cases, an unresponsive display.
The issue has been referred to as ‘Crackgate’ online. One theory suggests that a component beneath the inner display, close to the hinge, could be moving out of place and putting pressure on the screen when the phone is folded or unfolded. However, the exact cause of the reported damage has not been confirmed.
The display is not the only part of the iPhone Duo that attracted complaints. Some users also reported creaking noises while folding the phone, while others faced software glitches when switching between the outer and inner displays. There have also been complaints about apps behaving inconsistently, unresponsive interface elements and problems with the external display’s sidebar.
On the other hand, a report citing an anonymous Foxconn employee alleged that Apple had dropped its quality control checks to produce enough iPhone Duo units ahead of launch. The claim has not been independently verified, and there is no confirmed link between the alleged changes and the display problems reported by users.
It is worth noting that these complaints do not necessarily affect every iPhone Duo. Some software problems could potentially be fixed through updates, while physical damage to the display or hinge may require a repair or replacement.
