Michigan/India, May 7, 2025 – BorgWarner, a well-known global Tier 1 component manufacturer with a significant presence in India that specialises in innovative and sustainable mobility solutions, has signed a contract with a North American global OEM to supply its 400-volt High Voltage Coolant Heater technology for the automaker’s plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) platform.
The HVCH PHEV agreement includes mid-size pickup trucks, SUVs, and minivans, with production expected to begin in 2027. According to projected volumes, this contract is BorgWarner’s largest HVCH PHEV award in North America to date.
The company’s 400V HVCH has a compact and adaptable design that can accommodate the OEM’s specific vehicle environments without requiring platform modifications.
Furthermore, the technology boasts a high thermal power density thanks to its innovative brazed aluminium fin technology, which can deliver up to 10 kW of power. The thick-film heating and brazed fins allow for optimal heat transfer, flow distribution, and degassing while preventing bubble accumulation.

Dr. Volker Weng, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager of Turbos and Thermal Technologies, confirmed the agreement, saying that BorgWarner has been working closely with this global OEM on a number of projects and is excited to strengthen their partnership by providing this efficient solution for battery and cabin heating.
He went on to say, “In comparison to other heating solutions, our HVCH technology allows us to offer a robust solution that delivers cost benefits to our customers while not modifying the overall vehicle environment.”
According to company officials, the HVCH serves as a reliable heat source that is unaffected by external temperatures, warming both the cabin and the battery, thereby supporting optimal conditions for faster charging, extended battery life, durability, performance, and driving range.
