As someone who grew up in the ’90s and always found the Addams Family to be charming, quirky, and fun, I was excited to watch Wednesday season 1 on Netflix. While they might not be as dark and sarcastic as Ortega’s character, the werewolves and vampires who attend the boarding school likely enjoy this time of year.
Wednesday season 2’s Halloween episode would look great since Nevermore could be decorated with spiders and ghosts, the students could bob for apples, and Wednesday could decorate a particularly dark and eerie-looking pumpkin. Since the new season could fit more into the horror genre, why not make it look even spookier? I think the best episode of Wednesday season 1 was episode 4, “Woe What A Night.” Ortega did a great job dancing to The Cramps song “Goo Goo Muck” and, hopefully, Wednesday season 2 will have another fun viral moment. While the school dance has been a classic young adult media trope, it was used perfectly here.
This episode is so enjoyable because no one would expect Wednesday Addams to attend a school dance. While some might say that this doesn’t fit with her iconic Addams Family characters, others like that she joins in with her Nevermore Academy classmates. She does things her way, including this creepy and entertaining dance.
